Seeing red in Manchester derby
In the Manchester derby there were two huge calls and, again, VAR somehow managed to get both wrong. Well, the first was at the very least morally wrong as opposed to totally wrong by the letter of the law. Bruno Fernandes sneakily kicked Phil Foden while the Manchester City man was defenceless on the ground.

Monday Night Football: No surprises among the Chiefs-Broncos inactives
Reason for optimism
Two wins and two draws have taken Leeds up to third in the Premier League after four games, with only Manchester City and Arsenal having more points. After securing safety on their return to the top flight last season with a 14th-place finish, this is a start Leeds fans would have dreamed of. In fact, only in 1995-96, 1998-99, 2001-02, and now 2026-27 have Leeds avoided defeat in each of their first four in the competition in the Premier League era.

Foden needs to be more composed
Manchester City captain Ruben Dias say Phil Foden needed to be "more controlled and composed" when provoked by Bruno Fernandes in Sunday's Manchester derby. Foden was sent off for violent conduct after kicking out at Fernandes on the floor after being fouled and kicked himself by the Manchester United skipper. "In the moment I felt it was a bit harsh because my perception was Bruno kicks Phil and then he has a rushed reaction and maybe kicks him back," Dias said.

Is Oklahoma In Panic Mode Right Now?
Oklahoma might be in serious trouble. The Sooners entered this season ranked No. 10 in the country with legitimate College Football Playoff expectations. Two games later? Motherwell's free week proves a 'big positive'
The "big positive" of a free week has helped align Motherwell's new-look squad with the club's principles, says assistant coach Max Rogers. An attempt to qualify for the Conference League meant the Fir Park side were playing three games a week for much of the start of their season. Despite that, Alfred Johansson's men have still been able to collect eight points from their opening five league matches.

'City seemed to enjoy the challenge'
Sunday's result was a statement win for Manchester City's new manager Enzo Maresca, who got his tactics spot on, but his team's performance will have showed him exactly what they are about. City are used to always having most of the ball but they were fine without it against Manchester United. That is down to leadership and communication - not just from the manager, but from the players on the field. Maresca deserves plenty of credit for his decisions too, but he must be thinking he is a lucky man for having the group of players he does, because their intelligence and resilience was key.

Idah's eye-catching record as Swansea forwards shine
If goals per league start is the best way of judging a striker's impact, then few could better Adam Idah's numbers in a Swansea City shirt. The primary frustration for Idah after just over a year as a Swansea player will be that there have not been more league starts. Idah began a Championship fixture for only the 11th time since swapping Celtic for south Wales as Swansea beat Burnley over the weekend.
All set for biggest week in Cherries' 127-year history
The next seven days will bring the biggest moments so far in Bournemouth's 127-year history. Right now, as a result of Bournemouth failing again at the weekend to pick up a league win, it is hard to choose which one of those games is the most important for the club. Sitting in Marco Rose's post-match news conference on Saturday gave me Bob Marley vibes - because, despite missing out on Bournemouth's first Premier League win under his tenure at the fourth time of asking, the theme was much "every little thing is gonna be alright" in terms of them eventually converting draws into victories.

O'Neill's team selection questioned as Celtic wilt at Ibrox
Manager Martin O'Neill will have to face criticism over his Celtic team selection in Sunday's derby defeat to Rangers after "too many players didn't show up" at Ibrox, says former striker Cillian Sheridan. The ex-forward was shocked to see winger Sebastian Tounekti start ahead of summer signing Haissem Hassan, who was introduced as a half-time substitute in the 3-0 League Cup quarter-final loss. Sheridan says it will be no surprise to see O'Neill change his line-up for Thursday's Europa League opener at home to Ferencvaros, which comes just three days before a rematch with Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.

Liverpool 0-0 Fulham
Ian: The Fulham goalkeeper could have gone home, he wasn't needed. There was a total lack of effort all through the Liverpool team. Fulham had a doddle against us and it is absolutely unacceptable for us to have a £350m+ attack and for Leno to be so untested and for their backline to be so unconcerned.

Spurs 'a blunt instrument' as 'stuttering start' continues
Tottenham's goalless league streak extended to 407 minutes as a stuttering start to what was meant to be brave new era continued in Saturday's 0-0 draw at home against Everton. It was the first time they have failed to score in their opening four league games across all four tiers - and also in four successive Premier League matches since September 2006. The grim statistic would be bad enough in any circumstances, but it is even worse after Spurs spent in excess of £300m in the summer, much of it designed to give Roberto De Zerbi's side an added edge.

Leeds v Newcastle: Key stats and talking points
Leeds United host Newcastle United with both teams yet to suffer defeat in this season's Premier League. Leeds' unbeaten start continues the streak of resilience that was evident in the second half of 2025-26, notably after head coach Daniel Farke's much-heralded switch to a back three last winter. The new signings have also bedded in well, in particular Tarik Muharemovic, who has had to fill the sizeable shoes of Pascal Struijk – the Bosnian has made 16 headed clearances so far, joint-top of the Premier League standings alongside Sunderland's Dan Ballard.

Kevin Schade scored a hat-trick in the 4-1 win against Bournemouth last December and was their tormentor again on Saturday.
