Brighton 3
It’s been a while since Arsenal put in a “file and forget” performance but that is what they’ll need to do with today’s showing at Brighton. The Gunners, to a man, were well off their best. Brighton were energetic and more than a bit lucky. Combine those two and sometimes it can look like today’s […]
Analysis: Fearless Seagulls rewarded for attacking approach
Brighton came into this match as the league's top scorers and did not disappoint with their attacking mindset. Diego Gomez on the wing did an excellent job of keeping Riccardo Calafiori quiet, while Charalampos Kostoulas caused problems for the Gunners backline throughout. The 19-year-old Greece international deserved his excellent goal, which was his third in successive games, as he looks to show he can step up to be Brighton's main striker following Danny Welbeck's summer departure to Chelsea.
Brighton 3-0 Arsenal: What Arteta said
In the first 20 or 30 minutes, the number of technical errors put us constantly under pressure. Arsenal suffered their biggest Premier League defeat since May 2023, which was also against Brighton (0-3 at Emirates Stadium). Fulham v Man Utd: Key stats and talking points
The Red Devils, who were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Brighton on Wednesday, have won just one of their opening four Premier League games this season to leave them 13th, already eight points adrift of the early pace-setters Arsenal and Manchester City. The Brighton defeat rounded off a difficult few days for United head coach Michael Carrick, whose side were insipid in the Manchester derby loss to 10-man City last Sunday. Lack of cutting edge caused a defensive collapse
Chelsea signed a striker from Brighton for the second successive summer, bringing in Danny Welbeck to reunite him with Joao Pedro and provide support in attack. Welbeck, 35, was tidy in possession but, with little service, managed only 17 touches before being substituted in the 71st minute. Unlike Joao Pedro, who is capable of creating chances for himself, Welbeck found it difficult to influence the game in the same way.
Sutton's predictions: Brighton v Arsenal
There might be a bit of an edge to this one after Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler had a pop at Arsenal over their time-wasting when they beat the Seagulls near the end of last season. It doesn't seem to matter who they are missing from their team, Brighton are just bold as brass with the way they press and get men forward. Luka Vuskovic, who they got from Spurs for £46m in the summer, is only 19 but he strolled through the game against United.
