It’s been 84 years… Now we all know how an elderly Rose felt in Titanic after enduring the longest of international breaks. Defensive concerns and possible transfers
Graeme: I wouldn't bet against the club bringing in a couple of additional players to freshen up the squad, but I would envisage that, before anyone else arrives, someone is likely to leave. Hayden asked: We seem to have some decent firepower this season, but can Ipswich get away with having pretty much a Championship defence? Graeme: I share concerns about Town in that part area of the pitch, but I think 'Championship defence' might be a tad harsh, Hayden.

Summer signings assessed & why Town fans can have hope
Heading into the international break, Ipswich Town have double the amount of points at this stage of the season compared with their previous Premier League campaign. Bear in mind as well that they've played four teams who are featuring in Europe this season. Saturday at Hill Dickinson Stadium - against a team with just their domestic fixtures to worry about - was particularly frustrating, as Gary O'Neil's side didn't deserve to come away with nothing.
'A really positive start for Barry'
Thierno Barry has been the surprise hit of Everton's season so far, with the 23-year-old striker the match-winner against Ipswich to take his tally to five goals this season. It is a marked improvement in scoring ratio from his eight goals in 41 games last season - and BBC Sport Merseyside commenter Chris Coughlin believes Barry is becoming a favourite with fans. It is Everton heritage and an honour to wear the number nine.

Analysis: Eagles unlucky to not gain win
This was a good test for boss Pierre Sage, with the Eagles playing on Thursday in the Europa League and having three days less preparation time than Leeds. Crystal Palace created the first chance of the match, only for Quinten Timber to fire over from 25 yards, before Adam Wharton and Tyrick Mitchell had their only other chances of note in the first half, with both strikes deflected and easily dealt with. Palace had conceded a late goal to lose 3-2 to Ipswich Town last weekend and it would have been harsh on them if something similar had happened here.
Analysis: O'Neil can be encouraged at team's display
Ipswich scored last-minute goals in their wins over Sunderland and Crystal Palace and their fans would have had hopes of more late drama when seven minutes were added on at Hill Dickinson Stadium. Town had sent on Zian Flemming, who scored their winner against Palace, but the 10 men could not score, with Flemming wasting a good chance in injury time when he fired over the top. Centre-half Issa Diop almost snatched a point right at the end, only for his effort to be charged down by a combination of Branthwaite and Garner.
Everton 1-0 Ipswich: What Moyes and Pickford said
If we get the second goal it changes the game but Ipswich clung on and it allowed them to put us under pressure late in the game. The first year in the Premier League is always tough, he has found his feet and he has started a lot better this year.

Davis 'should be wing-back'
Legendary former Ipswich midfielder John Wark has said Leif Davis "should be a wing-back" because of his attacking prowess, but warned against an England call-up at this stage. The 26-year-old defender has impressed so far this season and his one goal and assist has already equalled his tally from Ipswich's last Premier League campaign in 2024-25. On the other side of Gary O'Neil's defence, Darnell Furlong admitted after Tuesday's Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Arsenal that having limited game time so far this season has been difficult.

Dowman has to 'earn' minutes
Arsenal teenager Max Dowman, who has been an unused substitute on four occasions for the Gunners this season, will get his chance in the team, but it must be earned, says boss Mikel Arteta. The 16-year-old attacker made 13 appearances in all competitions last season and scored against Everton to become the youngest scorer in Premier League history. Arteta did not name Dowman on the bench in Saturday's 2-0 win over Sunderland and could not guarantee he would start at Portman Road in the EFL Cup against Ipswich on Tuesday.

"Late wins are always the best, aren't they?" he said after scoring the 90th-minute winner at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
Crystal Palace 2-3 Ipswich
Followed by poor defending, leaving players unmarked in the box, it was too easy for Ipswich to score. However, we made it hard for ourselves by not wrapping up the game with the five or six chances we had early in the second half when we continued to dominate.

Arsenal have also won all three of their league games so far this campaign, making a strong start to the defence of the title they won last season. When will Baleba make his Man Utd debut?
Manchester United made the signing of Carlos Baleba a pretty big deal by parading him onto the pitch before last month's Premier League victory over Ipswich. Man Utd made midfield recruitment a summer priority, so what happens now? On the early evidence, it will be either Kobbie Mainoo or Youri Tielemans, with either Tielemans or Bruno Fernandes in the number 10 role.

'Scoring goals always lifts some weight off your shoulders'
Liverpool striker Alexander Isak says scoring twice in Friday's win at Ipswich "lifts some weight" off his shoulders. Lats summer's £125m signing struggled with form and injuries during his first season with the Reds, but fired past Kjell Scherpen twice inside the opening nine minutes at Portman Road to take his tally to three in three at the start of this campaign. "Winning our first game of the season was very important and I'm happy to be on the scoresheet twice," Isak said.

Liverpool's Iraola: A fit Isak will 'produce the numbers'
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has no doubt Liverpool's £125 million ($169 million) forward Alexander Isak will "produce the numbers" this season after a brace inside nine minutes inspired a 2-0 win at Ipswich. All eyes were on summer arrival Bradley Barcola in Suffolk, but after Iraola named the France forward on the bench, Isak showed why the Reds paid such a hefty fee to prize him away from Newcastle last summer.
'I really believe in the manager and the club'
Liam Delap says Oliver Glasner played a big part in his decision to sign for Nottingham Forest because he feels he "can really improve" under his coaching. The 23-year-old striker was made available for sale this summer by Chelsea after he scored just one Premier League goal in a 2025-26 campaign disrupted by shoulder and hamstring injuries. Delap's frustrating season was off the back of a hugely successful one at Ipswich Town in which he scored 12 goals in 37 Premier League games.
Flemming feels 'pure excitement' for Liverpool game
New Ipswich signing Zian Flemming says he is feeling "joy and excitement" to experience the Premier League again with Ipswich Town. Flemming could make his debut for the Tractor Boys in Friday night's visit of Liverpool after his £20m move from Burnley on deadline day. The 28-year-old striker scored 11 league goals for the Clarets last season, but could not help them avoid relegation in what has been his only English top-flight campaign so far.

Sutton's predictions: Ipswich v Liverpool
My daughter's old maths teacher, Mr Fields, is an Ipswich fan and he is very excited about how ambitious the club has been since getting promoted. Ipswich have spent almost £200m on a stack of new signings to try to stay in the Premier League and, watching them, it is clear they are not just planning to park the bus. It will be interesting to see if new signing Bradley Barcola starts for the Reds, who seem to have a lot of attacking players who like to play off the left.

How Bournemouth's shootout loss 'completed a circle of sorts'
Bournemouth's exit from the FA Cup on penalties at Newcastle United completed a circle of sorts, as the two sides had contested the first televised FA Cup penalty shootout in January 1992. Before the 1991-92 season, drawn FA Cup ties were replayed, again and again, until a winner was found. For Bournemouth's part, they played Torquay at Bristol City's Ashton Gate (1932), Ipswich at Arsenal's Highbury (1952), Watford at Swindon's County Ground (1967), Blackpool at Aston Villa's Villa Park (1972), Gillingham at Brentford's Griffin Park (1974) and Colchester at Watford's Vicarage Road (1977) in cup competitions.
